Due to a rapidly expanding prison population, the NSW Government’s Corrective Services department were required to procure several rapid delivery prisons in regional NSW. Grieve Gillett Architects (GGA) worked in association with Perumal
Pedavoli (PPA), together with the lead contractor to deliver the 400-bed prison at Wellington in central NSW.
The multidisciplinary design and construct (D+C) team interrogated the tendered reference design to identify opportunities for multiple prefabricated trade packages to mitigate prefabrication trade resource overload and to safeguard timely delivery. GGA, PPA and the lead contractor then met with identified prefabrication subcontractors to establish resources, current capacity, suitability to particular building typology and collaborative attitude to working under such time and quality constraints.
The critical path construction programme informed critical trades and identified target shop drawing production which commenced at 50% documentation. Civil works have commenced on site as shop drawing production is reaching peak outputs. Construction works programme forecasts facility handover in late February 2017 and current tracking evidences project programme will be achieved.
