The South Australian 30 year Strategic Plan identified the north south corridor upgrade as a key strategic initiative and five component parts had been delivered, including the Northern Expressway, South Road Superway, Gallipoli Underpass at Anzac Highway, Tram over South Road and the Southern Expressway duplication.

All of these projects had been delivered in the absence of an overarching urban design framework subsequently creating a fractured and disparate collection of elements and forms along the corridor. Having delivered the urban design framework (UDF) for the north south corridor and the urban design reference design for Torrens to Torrens (T2T),

Grieve Gillett Architects joined the T2T Alliance comprising of CPB Contractors, Aurecon Australia and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure to provide Urban Design Services.

The main Adelaide metropolitan road network Traffic Control Centre is housed in Norwood. The Department recognised a need for emergency backup facility and a secondary Traffic Control Centre was identified for inclusion along the north south corridor in the T2T precinct. Grieve Gillett Architects undertook extensive stakeholder consultation and engagement to interrogate functional deficiencies and operational improvements of the existing facility to capture potential functional enhancements and to optimize operational outcomes. The small unobtrusive facility houses IT server, comms links, UPS
backup, standby generator, control desks and staff facilities sufficient to become a fully operational stand-alone facility in time of emergency.
