A total of six new Grieve Gillett Architecture projects have been nominated for the 2019 SA Architecture Awards including: House 108 a delightful two storey residential addition, a state-of-the-art gym pavilion at Hilton Adelaide overlooking Victoria Square and the landmark education development now known as St Mary’s Corner.

House 108 – a delightful two storey addition to a typical eastern suburbs’ bungalow reminiscent of a New Zealand cabin – featuring extensive external timber cladding, large windows and strong connections to outdoor areas is nominated in the residential architecture category for alterations and addition.

Hilton Adelaide's new purpose-built gym pavilion (Commendation for Small Project Architecture) draws on the global hospitality leader’s focus on smart design and innovative concepts that provide premiere guest satisfaction, comfort and wellbeing. Our design approach envisioned a structure that complemented the existing modernist building fabric, while providing gym users with direct views to Victoria Square.

The St. Mary's College West Terrace Development (City of Adelaide People's Choice Award, Award for Educational Architecture) focused on a process centred on understanding the school’s identity facilitated concept development for the St Mary’s College façade. Through a collaborative, consultative and cross disciplinary process, the intent was to reflect on and capture core narrative and strategic considerations central to the school’s philosophy and operating environment.

The refurbishment of staff facilities at Loreto College within the iconic State Heritage-listed Acacias building and a major reconfiguration of the Mary Ward building that has helped to drive a new education and learning direction for the College will be considered for awards in interior architecture and heritage.

While Baliol Residence, (Commendation for Residential Architecture - Houses New) despite its historical context characterised by large homes in a landscape setting, is clearly the new kid on the block. With a barn shaped frontage giving way to an edgy modernist building form that responds to the contemporary ease and practicality of busy family life.

Judging was held in March where our architects presented to each project to the juries and was followed by a series of jury site visits to each project. The awards will be announced at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Saturday 29 June.
