INTRODUCING CHARLOTTE STANDISH

9 January 2019

Grieve Gillett Andersen

As we welcome in 2019, we are pleased to have interior designer Charlotte Standish join the team this year, after recently graduating in Interior Architecture at the University of SA.

Charlotte talked about her design approach in the graduate exhibition catalogue, as always designing with people in mind and finds the atmosphere of a space essential to the way it is occupied. “I aim to develop designs that are sophisticated and unique whilst being practical and functional, designs that will remain intriguing for occupants of the future," she shares.

Last year, Charlotte also received the Gold Award in Built Environment at the 2018 Design Institute of Australia SA/NT Awards for her Studio 7 project ‘agora’ (pictured).

With a strong focus on the rejuvenation of Hindley Street’s vibrant daytime atmosphere, agora is a gourmet deli and coffee hub, which aims to be a place for ‘migrants’ of the west end to meet – works, students and residents – like previous generations once did, and to buy quality fresh produce as they pass through. The main influence of the design is the history, architectural and cultural features of ‘Star Grocery’ the site’s most prominent past in the 1940s and 1950s, as well as other Greek delis and cafes in Adelaide during this time.

We also welcome back Architect Kimberley Harbison from maternity leave, and UniSA student Andrew Lymn-Penning will be in the office helping us out over the holidays.
