The Maylands Residence is located on a deceivingly elevated corner block, oriented with its long axis east to west. The existing west facing residence was retained with the more recent lean-to addition on the eastern end removed.
The client’s brief required a new light and modern living/dining area opening onto a private outdoor entertaining and play/garden area allowing for passive surveillance of the children at play; a second family space; a new family bathroom and laundry; three dedicated bedrooms, plus a study; and a double garage.
A new kitchen had been installed two years earlier within the existing house which was enclosed and could not be modified to suit the client’s brief. The clients decided it would be best to relocate the Kitchen to a new location combining with the Dining/Living areas enabling them to more fully meet their brief.
The result was a light filled, airy new family space directly linked to a private covered wrap around deck, allowing the full use of the previously abandoned northern side of the site.
