Hindmarsh engaged Grieve Gillett Architects to design, document and provide construction services for the Globe Apartments. The design employs a highly efficient structural solution with a shear lift/scissor stair core and load bearing, self-finished pre-cast concrete, textured facade.
The 78 apartment, 15 storey residential development occupies a particularly tight site in Synagogue Place adjacent to Rundle Street in Adelaide’s east end. With a site area of 540m2, the development has a plot ratio of 11.8:1. GGA’s lateral approach to the design of the apartments achieves a scheme that maximises the saleable area, providing six two bedroom units per floor. All bedrooms enjoy an external window.
A common area with laundry facilities, a large kitchen, meeting rooms, lounge and theatre room is provided on the first floor, with bicycle parking on the ground floor. The ground floor is activated by a retail tenancy that flows from the residential lobby.
