Newport Quays Stage 1 (Edgewater Apartments and Villas) was a joint venture with architectural practice Cox Melbourne. The project consisted of three harbour side apartment blocks of 5-storeys each with on ground parking and 48 apartments. The apartment blocks were fronted by 52 Torrens title two and three-storey townhouses with separate dual vehicle private parking. A gymnasium, spa and indoor 25m swimming pool were included in the base of the central apartment block and secured moorings were provided in the adjacent harbour.
Following architectural concept design by Cox, Grieve Gillett Architects undertook architectural design development, managed authority approvals, coordinated the consultant team, prepared construction documentation and undertook contract administration as a Design + Construct (D+C) contract.
Edgewater was the first stage of a redevelopment aimed at upgrading and reusing previously disused and alienated industrial land, thereby enhancing and rejuvenating the urban environment of Port Adelaide.
Grieve Gillett Architects facilitated the design and delivery of a substantial South Australian development by an interstate architectural practice with minimal input beyond the sketch design phase. We worked closely with the developer and the
building contractors to achieve a successful end result. The project was delivered on time and within budget importantly meeting preconstruction sales contract dates.
