The new Adelaide Studios, located within the Glenside Campus cultural precinct provides a landmark home for the next generation of film and screen talent. The Studios include new sound stages, production rooms, post-production facilities including mixing and foley studios, a set construction building and a screening theatre. These facilities will sustain South Australia’s niche in supporting and attracting independent production.
The facility comprises State listed heritage building with new additions. Grieve Gillett Architects provided detailed building fabric condition assessment of the existing built fabric including roofs, external masonry, verandahs, windows and doors. Grieve Gillett Architects worked with structural engineers to address earthquake compliance of the main tower, parapets and chimneys.
Grieve Gillett Architects documented a detailed scope of conservation works, achieved through value management scope reduction to essential works and provided a maintenance schedule with defined works and a programme for continuing building management. Grieve Gillett Architects assessed code compliance in a comprehensive review and report prior to design work commencing. The report included equity of access and DDA compliance assessment and recommendations.
“. . . the new facilities achieve industry best practice. Both the old and new architecture have a robust, no-nonsense character, resulting in an experientially rich and stimulating environment.”
